EVA foam replacement

The fix: custom-fit GatorStep, not a patch

Lakebound Marine removes the worn-out foam and replaces it with custom-fit GatorStep — CAD-cut for your exact boat and installed by an authorized GatorStep dealer.

Re-gluing a peeling piece rarely holds — the material is usually at the end of its life. We don't patch and we don't sell peel-and-stick sheets for you to trim yourself. We remove the old, failed decking, clean the deck back to a sound surface, and install GatorStep cut to your boat's exact dimensions from a photogrammetry template. The result fits flush: no gaps, no overhanging edges, seams placed where they belong.

Why it holds this time

Why the new GatorStep won't fail the way the old foam did

Fair question — you're replacing foam that peeled, so why would new foam hold? Early peeling almost always traces back to two things:

Surface prep. Adhesive is only as good as what it's stuck to. We strip the failed foam and the old adhesive residue back to a clean, sound surface before anything goes down.

Edge fit. Peeling starts at edges and seams that don't match the deck. Every GatorStep piece we install is CAD-cut to your boat's actual curves and cutouts, so edges sit tight instead of being trimmed to approximate and left proud to catch a heel or a rope.

GatorStep's peel-and-stick backing is a marine-grade pressure-sensitive adhesive made for exactly this application — and because we install it, the bond gets even pressure on a properly prepped deck.

EVA foam replacement

Common questions

Will the new GatorStep peel up like my old foam?

The failures that bring boats to us start with skipped surface prep and edges that never quite fit. Both are exactly what a custom install fixes: the deck is stripped to a clean, sound surface before the new kit goes down, and every piece is CAD-cut to your boat so the edges sit tight. That's a different starting point than the foam that's failing on your deck now.

Can you just re-glue my peeling foam?

Sometimes a small, isolated edge can be re-bonded, but if the foam is lifting in multiple spots, bubbling, or faded, the material is usually near the end of its life and a spot fix won't last. This applies to worn EVA foam of any brand, including SeaDek-brand pads.

Do I have to remove the old foam myself?

No. Removing the old decking and cleaning off adhesive residue is part of the job.

Does the new decking fit my exact boat?

Yes. We template your boat and CAD-cut each GatorStep piece to its actual dimensions, so it fits flush rather than being trimmed to approximate.

What does replacement cost?

It depends on your boat's size and layout. Send photos for a quote — and see our boat flooring cost guide for how pricing works.
